Christmas returns to Darling Harbour with free family entertainment, waterfront lights, live performances, fireworks and plenty of reasons to head outside on a warm Sydney evening.

From the floating Christmas tree in Cockle Bay to Santa’s arrival at Tumbalong Park, the precinct takes on a different feel through November and December. Darling Harbour Christmas Festival

The Darling Harbour Christmas Festival returns to Tumbalong Park on Saturday 19 December from 4pm to 9pm, turning the park into a free summer Christmas celebration for families. Expect live performances from Whistle & Trick and Diver City, a kids’ dance party, community choir performances, games and competitions, roving entertainment and a Creative Corner with Christmas crafts, face painting and letters to Santa.

Then comes the moment younger visitors have been waiting for: Santa’s arrival at 8.15pm, followed by a festive singalong before the celebrations move towards Cockle Bay for 9pm fireworks.

No tickets are required and entry is free, making it an easy afternoon or evening out for families staying nearby.

Sydney’s Floating Christmas Tree

Cockle Bay once again becomes home to Darling Harbour’s floating Christmas tree, returning from 20 November to 26 December. By day, the decorations catch the Sydney sunshine. Once evening arrives, the tree lights up over the water, creating one of the precinct’s easiest festive stops for an evening walk or photo before dinner.

More Christmas around the harbour

The celebrations extend well beyond one weekend. Across December, Darling Harbour’s calendar includes live music and community performances, Christmas shows at ICC Sydney and Darling Quarter Theatre, waterfront dining and other seasonal entertainment.

Highlights include Our Community Christmas at Palm Grove on 13 December, featuring choirs, musicians and local performers, alongside The Greatest Christmas Show at ICC Sydney that same day. Later in the week, Love Actually in Concert comes to the TikTok Entertainment Centre on 17 December.

A Christmas stay in Pyrmont

One of the nicest parts of Christmas in Darling Harbour is that you do not need much of an itinerary. Head down to the waterfront for the lights, find something to eat, stay for the fireworks or bring the kids along for the Christmas Festival, then make the short walk back to Hotel Woolstore 1888 when you have had enough festive cheer for one night.

Warm evenings, harbour views and music that makes it difficult to stand still.

Latin Nights by the Bay returns to Darling Harbour every Friday from 2 October to 4 December 2026, bringing free salsa and bachata lessons, live Latin music, DJs and social dancing back to the waterfront. Held at Palm Grove, around a 7-minute walk from Hotel Woolstore 1888, it is an easy way to start the weekend without needing a ticket, a dance partner or any previous experience.

Come for the lesson. Stay for the live music. Or simply find a spot nearby and watch the dance floor fill.

How the night unfolds

6pm — Free dance lesson
Each Friday begins with a beginner-friendly lesson led by one of Sydney’s Latin dance schools. No partner or experience needed.

7pm — Performances and DJs
Sydney dancers take to the floor before DJs move through salsa, bachata and Latin favourites.

From 7:45pm — Live music and social dancing
Live bands and DJs carry the night through until around 10pm, with the dance floor open to everyone.

Across the season, the program features a changing line-up of local dance schools, DJs and Latin musicians, including Sydney Latin Flow, Latin Junction, Tropical Soul, Gonzalo Porta Trio, Lucerito León Trio, Richard Valdez Trio and Wilson Orozco Trio.

A Christmas finale

The final Latin Night of the season lands on Friday 4 December, with a Christmas special featuring a salsa lesson with Go Dance Sydney, music from DJ Rafael Rojas and the Gonzalo Porta Full Band, plus a Christmas Salsa-Off and Salsa-ing Santa competition.

Festive, slightly chaotic and very Darling Harbour.

When to watch Darling Harbour fireworks

Fireworks are scheduled on the first weekend of each month:

Displays run for around 5 to 10 minutes, short, bright and just enough to pause the night for a moment.

New Year’s Eve in Darling Harbour

New Year’s Eve is a bigger affair. On 31 December 2026, Darling Harbour will welcome 2027 with free fireworks at 9pm and midnight over Cockle Bay. Viewing areas operate on a first-come, first-served basis and capacity limits apply, so arriving early is recommended. Pyrmont Bridge will not operate as a fireworks viewing location on New Year’s Eve.

If you’re staying at Hotel Woolstore 1888, being able to walk back to Pyrmont once the celebrations are over makes the end of the night considerably easier.

Dinner first, fireworks after

With Darling Harbour this close, the fireworks do not need to become the whole evening. Start at Percy with Spanish-inspired plates, wine or cocktails, then wander down towards Cockle Bay in time for the display. Afterwards, follow the waterfront back towards Pyrmont and leave the crowds behind.

A few minutes of fireworks, a good dinner and your room waiting nearby. Sometimes that is enough of a plan.

Getting to Accor Stadium from Hotel Woolstore 1888

Public transport to and from the concert is currently included with event tickets, with final transport arrangements to be confirmed closer to the date. Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras returns from 12 February to 7 March 2027, bringing more than three weeks of celebration, culture, community and self-expression to the city.

The 2027 theme, HYPERBLOOM, sets the tone for a festival shaped by colour, visibility, joy and connection. While the full program is still to come, the season will once again stretch across Sydney with parties, performances, community events and some of Mardi Gras’ most-loved traditions.

Two dates already worth saving

A couple of the festival’s biggest moments are already confirmed. Fair Day returns on Sunday 14 February, bringing the community together for one of the most relaxed and colourful days of the Mardi Gras calendar.

Then on Saturday 6 March, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade returns for the night that brings Oxford Street and its surrounds to life with music, movement, pride and thousands of people lining the route.

The full 2027 program will be announced closer to the festival, with plenty more still to come between those two dates.

Mardi Gras is not just Parade night. With events spread across several weeks and different parts of Sydney, staying in the city gives you room to dip in and out of the festival without trying to fit everything into one evening.

Taxi or rideshare: allow approximately 10–15 minutes, depending on traffic and event road conditions.

For a major concert at Sydney Olympic Park, public transport is generally the easiest option.

From Hotel Woolstore 1888, guests can take the L1 light rail from nearby Convention to Central Station, then connect with the train network to Olympic Park, usually changing at Lidcombe. Olympic Park Station is located within the precinct and is a short walk from Accor Stadium.

Allow around 50–60 minutes from the hotel to Sydney Olympic Park, depending on connection and waiting times. The train journey from Central to Olympic Park itself takes approximately 30 minutes, with T7 services from Lidcombe generally running every 10 minutes. Additional services may operate for major events.

Sydney Comedy Festival is back from 12 April to 16 May 2027, taking stand-up, satire and everything in between to stages right across the city.

The first names are already out, with Arj Barker, Mel Buttle, Denise Scott, Jimeoin, Connor Burns, and Luke Heggie among the comedians appearing in 2027. And that is only the beginning, with hundreds more acts still to be announced as the Festival builds towards its full program launch in March.

There are also two major Festival Galas on the calendar, at Enmore Theatre on 19 April and Sydney Opera House on 25 April, bringing established names, festival favourites and new comedians together for one big night.

Pick a show. Then probably pick another.

That is usually how Sydney Comedy Festival goes. A single ticket has a habit of turning into dinner beforehand, another show later in the week, or a last-minute addition when someone tells you who they saw the night before.

The Festival stretches across venues and neighbourhoods throughout Sydney, from major theatres to smaller comedy rooms. The Comedy Crawl will also return in 2027, taking stand-up out of the theatre and into a rotating mix of bars, pubs and neighbourhood venues, with locations and comedians still to be announced.

Few bands have moved through as many different musical worlds while still sounding unmistakably like themselves.

Across albums including The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead have built a body of work that moves between guitar-driven rock, electronics, orchestration and experimentation.
